If you are interested in a promotion as a correctional officer...?
I am interested in possibly becoming a captain or lieutenant in the prison I work at. I've been here for 6 months. What are some tips and first impressions I need to make in order to get promoted or to be considered for promotion in the future? I have a criminal justice degree, I am a female, former military, and I practice marital arts... Many of the people I work with know this about me. Not many of the other COs can compare to my resume, thus keeping me competitive. I am new to the job and took it because I was interested in law enforcement and curious. All my supervisors and most of the staff (subtracting those who like drama) like me and respect me. Not many compliment me on my job performance, but that's part of being a CO. I guess I must be doing the job as expected since not much is said. I am describing the situation as it is, so, I am not trying to brag. I am a leader and I have always taken a leadership role in all the jobs I have ever had including when I was in the military. Also, I don't have the look of desperation many do about the job since I know I am not trapped there due to my educational ambitions.
