Why is graphite a good electrical conductor compared to diamond?

It has to do with the chemical structure. Graphite has a linear structure which can allow the charge to travel. That's why the sheets of graphite get separeted when you use it to write in a pencil. Diamond is a genous structure that has no prefered orientation.
