Federal law that avoids ppl to return games?

Just a few days ago i had bought the new call of duty game. Unconciously i forgot to ask if it was a multiplayer story mode (co-op). Figure out it wasnt i tried returning it to walmart wen they said it could not be returned due to federal law, is this tru??????
